Its not a technical issue. Poet expects to rake in $100M for a few years from an existing and established LR4 market. A customer asked them to develop this and they did.

Cisco would like their LR to grow into that same market but it is not there yet. You have quotes from a Cisco blog about the benefits of LR. What is the current market share of LR vs. LR4? How many years would it take producers to accept and migrate to the new incompatible form factor?

So make the LR4 now (unless you would rather another company take that revenue?) and later (if LR takes off) go to Cisco and make an LR too. No need to choose between walking and chewing gum here. There are standards and form factors and flavors of transcievers all over the place. Not sure why you are bent out of shape over LR.
