You can see, I hope, that although my offer to Rainer was intended for his eyes only, I stated so in the title, and was a genuine offer to be of service to him, this attracted criticism, which is fair enough in open forum, but in the absence of PM I could not avoid the overexposure.

You understandably are very hot on OT matters not appearing on the main forum and always comment when I err. But it amuses me that your castigation itself burdens the main board as much as my post.

No one is sure that Agoracom pulled the PM facility because of abuse. From personal experience it certainly happens and is upsetting, but on balance PM is too useful a facility to be removed for this reason. I believe the reason Agoracom gave was more to do with the incident of Chinese characters corrupting posts but no mention of abuse.

Any PM abuse can be dealt with by messaging Agoracom with a quote òf the words causing complaint. On the basis of Agoracom's rules they can remove perpetrators. But ideally we should just try to be respectful towards each other.
