aye.

there was also some debate about whether it was the discarded logo from a birth control or fertilization clinic.

whatever they do, I hope it's not an unnecessary waste of time and money, or an exercise in "Ready. Fire. Aim."

consider:

  • Lucent's red-ring logo bombed in China: turns out it's related to a cultural symbol for Satan.
  • when AirBNB introduced their Belo logo in 2014, everybody thought it looked like a penis.
  • SciFi TV network is now forever linked to syphillis
  • BP spent almost $250 MILLION on a new logo in 2008 (really should have saved all that rebranding effort for after the oil spill disaster)
  • similarly, the main reason we now have Altria and Xe, is because Phillip Morris and Blackwater have to try to hide from their past

on a more positive note,

  • Twitter originally bought exclusive-use perpetual rights to their first bird logo from iStock, for $15
  • the Coca-Cola logo/wordmark was free in 1885, done by the bookkeeper at lunch (it was simply handwritten with a dip pen); his work looks timeless and beautiful, because that was in the days before the schools switched from Spencer method to the Palmer method of teaching cursive penmanship. much easier to teach to children, but much uglier to look at.
  • same with Google (Sergey did it in Gimp, in about 5 minutes)
  • the Nike swoosh cost Phil Knight a whopping $35 in 1971. he later gave the designer (one of his students at Portland State University, while he was an assistant professor there) a token quantity of Nike shares. they're now worth around a million dollars.

GLAL,

R.
