B&C: "It is unimaginable that SV would give China access to the OI platform where the threat of IP theft is a distinct possibility. <= Thank you Okiedo in advance for clicking the recommendation button."
B&C, your prognostication about my decision to click the recommendation button regarding your post was a no brainer, a "Well, duh!".
I am rather passionate about all of the positions that BreadAndCircuses presented in his "Re: China Plus One (C+1) Thoughts" post. He said them all much better than I could. I tried to expand on some of the liabilities of any company engaging in a JV in China in a pevious post very early this morning but Agoracom censored and deleted that attempted post as a violation of the 6 Rules. Agoracom was right, my post was a violation, because I included links to 2 articles from the foreign policy journal: The Diplomat. They detailed many of the details about the liabilities to foreign companies undertaking business in China and regarding engaging in "contracts" and JVs with Chinese companies.
I can't post those links here, because that attempt has already been correctly labeled as a Rule Violation due to its political nature.
On the other hand, Agoracom, the Rule against political discussion is, at its root, undoubtedly a very wise Rule to have in order to keep decorum intact here on Agoracom, but.... please explain to me how any company messge board, not just the one for POET Technologies, is able to fully discuss all the positives and the negatives of the decision of any Canadian Small Cap company to do business in The Middle Kingdom without delving into the politics of the issue. I submit in all seriousness that when it comes to making a business deal with China any company is also making a deal with the political structure of China, whether that is the intent of the non Chinese company or not. To consider doing buisness in China or to continue doing buisness in China for a Western company, Canadian or otherwise, without taking into meticulous consideration the politics involved in such a decision would constitute the definition of "Folly" and be completely irresponsible by management of that company as toward the stock holders. And in the words of Bill Murray in the movie "Stripes": "That's the fact, Jack!"
At any rate, Thank You, B&C, for stating very important principles regarding how POET is presently connected to China and in doing so in such a fashion as to not be labeled as a "Rule Violation" by Agoracom.
The important point is that POET is moving forward and that Suresh and POET Management are not only aware of the very positive aspects of our SPX JV but they are also aware of the liabilities and the potential future liabilities of that arrangement, political and economic and, as you made specific reference to: protecting against intelectual theft. In China IP Theft has become something of an art form.
It is so great to see POET moving forward into other areas besides the Middle Kingdom.
Thanks, Suresh.
