Ah, good point, ABC-Sch! I stand corrected.
So we have two different statements on this subject now:
-
“The Taiwanese company is designing products with components sourced completely outside China and POET fits that need” from Lisa’s Zacks SCR report and
-
“POET expects to complete the design of the optical engines for FIT by Q3 2024 and start optical engine production at its joint venture, Super Photonics Xiamen, by Q4 2024” from POET’s press release.
How can we sort that out? Best way: Ask the company! Aside from that, I see the following likely or unlikely approaches:
- Lisa got it wrong (unlikely).
- POET got it wrong (even more unlikely).
- Samples will be manufactured by SPX, mass production will happen at Foxconn.
- Putting more emphasis on the word “components” in Lisa’s quote, this could mean that, well, the (active) components that are to be assembled onto the optical interposer are sourced outside of China, but the assembly takes place inside of China, i. e., at SPX.
I tend to go with the last alternative, which would also keep the door open to move the assemly process to a different country should the (e. g., geopolitical) need arise to do so.
