Very interesting. Was this motivation for POET to develop VCSEL integration capabilities into the optical interposer. My original thoughts were associated with LiDAR but I was told that 940nm VCSEL is not eye safe at the power levels required.

1550nm both eye safe and is resilient to atmospheric conditions (it is less absorbed in water vapor).
