Message: As investors, we should not fear the China connection to Poet

I'd like to express an alternative view to the fear that some have regarding ties to China, given the JV and partnership with Chinese suppliers of technology.

Consider that China has emerged as a formidable economic powerhouse. The country's rapid industrialization, infrastructure development, and massive labor force have fueled its ascent. This dominance is most prominently reflected in its Gross Domestic Product (GDP), which is second only to that of the United States, with the gap narrowing over time.

China's economic dominance is also evident through its extensive trade relationships. The nation has developed deep economic ties with countries around the world, becoming a critical trading partner for many. Its vast manufacturing capabilities, technological advancements, and capacity to produce a wide range of goods have made it a global manufacturing hub. The Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), launched by China, further exemplifies its ambition to expand its economic influence by investing in infrastructure projects and trade routes in numerous countries.

Furthermore, China's currency, the yuan or renminbi (RMB), has gained international prominence. The government has been taking steps to internationalize the RMB, encouraging its use in international trade and finance. This move aims to challenge the dominance of the U.S. dollar in the global financial system and further solidify China's economic position. Chinese companies, both state-owned and private, have also become giants in various industries, from technology to e-commerce, further reinforcing the country's economic prowess.

As Western nations, we demonize China. As investors, we should recognize the market opportunity. POET executives recognize this fact.

I agree that POET needs to expand business partnerships in Europe and N. America, but I suggest we step back for a moment and consider some of the partnerships that have already been established that will serve these Western markets.

I look forward to announcements about our second JV, but I'm not concerned about our current JV. I believe POET is slowly building a company with a valuable global reach.
