Without more to go on I think DL is referencing the operating temperature of the laser which is tuned to the best match for the operating temperature of the silicon. Closed loop control in that context would point to self correcting thermal control. 

Kind of foggy today after having a wisdom tooth pulled yesterday. Hopefully my wisdom has not suffered as a result. I can't afford the loss!
