If you expected good news next week, you'd have bought August options. If you expected good news by middle of October, you'd have bought $4 or $5 strikes. If you were just out and out guessing about/hoping for good news, you might buy the $3 strike. 

Sometimes it's difficult to discern intent from the purchase of such in the money options. At least we can be pretty darn sure that they were purchases and not sales.
