Are we sure that the competition does not have anything that equals POET's product? If so, how do we know this?
In some ways it might be better if others were using the same approach. Then there would not be the same caution for industry to steer away from the systems they use today. As it stands I believe that many see the benefits associated with a purpose built interposer that provides these optical benefits.
ADVA was reported as not having a viable solution without POET. It is required for their roadmap. Surely they would have had the opportunity to choose a platform similar to POET if one existed.
POET is in early. POET is the first to flip chip Lumentum's 100G DML's. Maybe others will follow but Lumentum and POET worked together on this. Did not Suresh report that no one at OFC had reached the capability of POET. No one was reporting flip chipped 100G DML’s. I forget the quote from Suresh but it confirmed his belief that POET is way ahead.
Yes I do think this approach is gathering attention.
