Oddly enough, I chatgpt-ed this last week. I am far from an expert so, take this with a grain of salt.
I believe they are talking about a fabry-perot laser which they have made smaller and changed the gain medium ( which is the medium between the between it's 2 mirror surfaces where the light bounces back and forth to genrate the laser).
According to what I read, it can cover a broader spectrum of light. The fabry-perot diode is tunable ( you can change the colour of light via a current that changes the wavelength of light that it generates by changing the distance between the mirrors) but I don't know if the laser is tunable.
One of the areas that it said the wider spectrum of light may be useful was in the biomedical field. I don't know if that would make better suited for wearables.
There is obviously some area where it is advantageous or why mention it.
