So, based on follow-on comments, it appears I may not have been all that effective in getting my point across re MACOM. Here's a link to a crude rendition of a typical optical transceiver with POET optical engine.  Note on the left hand side (dark blue) is all of the non POET content that is still required in addition to POET'S optical engine.  My suggestion was that MACOM could have streamlined much of what's on the left to a more consolidated and efficient format.

Considering this, is it possible a combination of POET'S engine and MACOM'S Pure Drive chipset makes a potentially unbeatable solution?  Not saying this is the case, just wanted to clarify that MACOM'S offering is not an optical engine but an electronic chipset that may streamline the non-POET parts of a finished transceiver, or any other non-POET transceiver for that matter.
