Great article...What becomes a big eye opener is the end to end numbers that POET has achieved.  POET has extremely low loss interfaces that can't be matched by silicon photonics and that means much lower power requirements for the remote laser which is exactly the issue that conventional silicon photonics is trying to solve for CPO as outlined in that article. And of course the athermal capabilities are not talked about and can't be talked about when it comes to Ayer Labs micro-ring thermal sensitivity...Again power is consumed to control temperature. Conventional silicon photonics does not give you a choice so of course there is no mention of this capability in the article.

 

There are so many advantages to the POET platform. There was a steady flow of interest at OFC. It is just a matter of time before industry analyst begin pushing those capabilities.
