Message: How will POET will impact the ecosystem

When Vivek first joined POET we had an opportunity to meet with him and get his take on why he joined POET, his view of the tech and the business model.

One of the items on my list was to ensure that my understanding of the strengths of the new POET platform was in line with the technical advantages that POET had achieved over the existing approaches to optical integration. I was very much satisfied in that regard and we were able to gain an appreciation of what a departure the POET platform represented. Not only the level of flexibility to produce a multitude of designs that had never been possible before at scale but the ability to fit into and complement the existing ecosystem. Vivek talked about the need to establish a presence in the US at an established technology hub…  Allentown. It was something that Suresh had previously talked about in terms of the need to have a multipurpose location which would include distribution but the location was yet to be determined.

In identifying the requirements for Allentown Vivek spoke of POET’s ability to use off the shelf devices designed to be integrated into the POET optical interposer. A location where both suppliers and consumers are brought together, an ecosystem. What is interesting is that Vivek was not only talking about the major players in the industry but the multitude of mid-size and smaller manufacturers and designers.

When I read Dr Mo’s interview, the importance of that business model to incorporate a wider range of customers in an expanded ecosystem enabled by POET was brought back into focus. A chance for companies who have been struggling with margin and the inability to compete effectively in new designs and innovative products..

Dr Mo:

POET has kept a low profile for so many years, and now their products are ready to start mass distribution. Marked by the official listing on NASDAQ, POET will come out of the model of only burning money without output. For small and medium module vendors, they provide a variety of off-the-shelf optical engine products, allowing more optical module vendors to enter the high-end module business
