Most high profile/major frauds involve big accounting firms, anyone who interacts daily with finance or is within the financial community knows this. Now if anyone can point me to big frauds involving smaller/local/regional firms, that'd be news to me.

Most TSXV companies aren't audited by Big4 anyway, so the idea that our auditor is a source of potential problem is absurd.
