I’ve been a member since February, 2014, and a shareholder slightly before that. I was asked what convinced me to buy more POET shares over the ensuing years, and why I’ve always had faith POET would lead to something, even though I had no idea what that something might be. The technology absolutely baffles me.
My answer was immediate; Dr. Geoff Taylor made me do it. Even though I never had the pleasure of meeting him as many on this forum have, I’m an academic and so is Geoff. In our cloistered and somewhat insular world, very few academics make preposterous or outlandish claims, especially of the scientific magnitude that Geoff proclaimed on several occasions. The honour and respect you garner from your colleagues and your discipline - local, national and international – disappears instantly if your claims are less than stellar. The criticism and scrutiny our work undergoes to be published and held in esteem is second to none, save perhaps the due due diligence executed in patent applications.
My faith in Geoff’s early proclamations has been proven by countless new patents and the proof of concept that has patiently but surely emerged. The de-risking of POET as a going concern has been steady, albeit slow at times. So, whilst POET’s technology and path are not perhaps as Geoff envisioned them, his fundamental work laid the foundation for the evolutionary pivots POET’s current scientists have made, and the deft corporate steering enacted by its new managers.
Many members here have been involved in OPEL/POET for far longer than I. It would be insightful to hear how/why you became, and remained, engaged.
