Are we sure that all of them expired? Many of those would have been in the money. Since he was no insider anymore they wouldn't need to be reported. But I would assume the most of them got converted. Why let them expire, when in the money? 
However, good anyway. If converted, it means money in POET's coffers. If they expired (which I don't think) it means less dilution for the shareholders.

But in any case, more options are now available for new or existing talent.
