Very interesting Mironclaw. Let the conspiracy theories begin. My understanding is that Taylor turned his back on POET.  The creator would not help them find a solution. Suresh I think has told us a number of times that they have no interest in continuing any development of the GaAs because they have the fully developed OI platform products in the commercialization phase.

The OI platform provides customers immediate and future needs for full optical integration with the most advanced wafer level solutions associated with the existing semiconductor industry. POET now holds the keys for optical integration that can continue to grow with new optical and electronic devices for the foreseeable future.

So all of a sudden we find what appears to be a new GaAs split terminal structure granted and issued to POET. Has Dr Taylor seen the light and now wants to provide a solution to give his platform value?
