The point I was making is that POET will have to work with a significant partner to build optical engines for co-packaged optics.

The Intel example provides some good insight of where the biggest and best are in this quest.

What is really significant is the importance of managing the cooling as can  be seen by the very large heat sinks shown in that clip of  Intel’s co-packaged device.

So you have a number of elements at play. Advantages that the POET OI platform can provide.

Very efficient optical coupling and transmission resulting in low power requirements for the laser. Less heat generated by lower power means reduced aging and higher reliability and a reduction in heat sink footprint. Lowering of the power budget which is ultimately one of the biggest reasons of moving from pluggables to co-packaged optics. That and of course the need for speed. Full marks for POET here as well since POET also provides waveguide filtering for  CWDM maximizing fiber efficiency.

And all of this is achieved at the lowest possible cost. I don’t see how anyone can compete against those benefits. There is no doubt in my mind that the biggest and brightest companies are going to want in on this.
