Of course you are right, the OI is wafer scale but thats the point, isn´t it? It´s important to make things visual at a conference. And I´m sure POET has enough in his hands to do just this. If they really want to.
The best way I could think of are two units like a opened "classical" transciever and a POET-powered transciever to demonstrate the smaller footprint. It doesn´t need to work, it´s just for the show. If this is only existent at POETs customer and POET is not allowed to show it, at least cut out the classical parts (that can be replaced) of any transciever and put them side to side with POETs chip solution. There must be a way to make it tangible.
Add some visualisation of the saved production time, failure-parts, costs, energy, signal-losses, ... Infinite possibilities here - use two vases with marbles or something more ingenious, witty and glitzy. And give the audiance an idea of the enhanced possibilities (use cases, connections, scalability, ...).
This should wow them, right? I wonder what we will see hereof at the OFC. It´s simple marketing and if POET with its 25 employees has no idea how to do this, it would be wise to spend some money on experts. You don´t need to spend millions. But to open the floodgates you need someone to move the gate wings. If you really want to.
