Way back in the early nineties I learned whilst being trained as a technical staff officer the problems and disadvantages of the VonNeuman architecture in computing.  Comms (the bus) within the machine were slowing the capability of early computers regardless of how fast your CPU was tweaked.  Shunting electrons through copper was clearly going to be surpassed one day by moving photons through fibre using lasers. 

That one day is upon us and soon communications, in all its modern forms, will be photonic based. And do you know what, my fellow longs, you were wise in investing in that potential.
