GaAs was shelved in favour of InP of which the OI came about as the low hanging fruit that is the closest to revenue for Poet. Suresh did say that they are open to partners in both streams (InP and GaAs), but their resources were to concentrate on InP first.

I remember when the THM occurred in 2015 that investors wondered why would Poet even entertain silicon in their photonics solutions. That's how far ahead Suresh thinks. Silicon occupies most of the IT industry, so Poet cannot go against river. However, that still does not mean that Poet cannot lead in other newer areas once they have established resources to suppport such journeys. As a small company, it is more practical for Poet to do as they are currently doing extending the current status quo and remaining compatible to the many nearer-term opportunities their OI research and development has nurtured.
