This morning when I posted this it struck a chord.
From POET’s NR
The Optical Interposer enables manufacturers of conventional and silicon photonics transceiver modules to reduce costs and, in some cases, to cost-effectively transition from 100G to 400G products using a common platform architecture.
Yesterday from Bill Gartner is Senior Vice President/GM of Cisco's Optical Systems and Optics Group.
Bit rate increases, pluggable optics represents a larger fraction of the total hardware cost. As an example, at 10G, optics represented about 10% of the total hardware cost of a data center network. As we progress to 400G, optics represent well over 50% of the total hardware cost.
It is reminiscent of what I have heard SV talk about in terms of the costs associated with the optical side.
It’s not hard to see where his head is at and for that matter where my head is at. While many people are worrying or making a trade…lol based on a very negative view that the POET platform doesn’t work I am looking at who the big customers are that Suresh has alluded to and how POET satisfies their optical needs.
The financing should be closing and the ceiling should lift. I think tomorrow is the last day for this pricing and if it stays down here I expect to be a buyer (if I have the time and can find the money).
