As a reminder of what’s in SV’s mind I’ll quote from his AGM presentation below.
the platform itself has a broad range of applications. Of course our key focus has been in data centers, data communication, and telecommunication. I think that will remain our focus over the next year. But when it comes to high-performance computing, multi-channel applications, automotive for LIDAR applications, industrial fencing, it’s got a broad range of applications. Wherever you use photonics chips and you want a low-cost, or high-performance, or solid-state configuration, this platform has applicabilities there. And that’s true for space, it’s true for automotive.
I’m satisfied that preparations for the transposer in terms of process and commercialisation with SilTerra and Accelink are well in hand, Accelink is in all probability our major customer and we are now effectively linked into that company’s vision of growth in communications for data and telecom. Which as Oz recently demonstrated is Mega.
My point is as seen from the above quote SV is wisely already thinking ahead about plans for developing products in other verticals. His problem is funding the growth required, however he has already given us the solution when he previously talked about partnerships for the GaAs side of POET. Consequently, one wonders how alive our prospective relationship with the Indian Space industry in this respect and what other partnerships are in the offing.
Furthermore given that our CEO was ‘humbled’ by the interest he has generated, his confidence must be brimming over as he can now demonstrably show that not only can he talk the talk but can walk the walk, given the success with the transposer project. Next week will be very interesting as we should hear what his next moves might be on the agenda beyond the transposer.
Incidentally, does anybody else wonder what Bill Ring is up to. Here in Wales I have not been able to get any of my Swansea Uni contacts to reveal anything, but it’s very interesting to observe just how keen the Welsh government might be to listen to one of their home bred gurus who must also be brimming with confidence. Government in Cardiff may be vey amenable to new business in IT given their recent promotion of developing this sector in South Wales. BBs part in the lab work for the transposer at Swansea, a potentialy very successful product hatched in Wales must carry some weight for future investment.
As FJ mentioned we need a bigger boat and next week might be where we learn more details of its concept and funding.
