Remember in the first roadmap and/or then the updated second roadmap, Suresh V. mentioned that POET is working in parallel on their developments. So the Denselight/BB Photonics solutions are nearer term and the GaAs platform is longer term (possibly destined for the Indian RFP). Even without the Indian RFP, POET could continue to advance this platform development on their own once the InP platform takes off and becomes a disruptive cash-cow in its own right.
Remember, Suresh, Ajit, Bill Ring, and Dr. Taylor are engineering scientists. Though all are brilliant each on their own, a consensus had to be reached on commercializing a POET or acquired and to be developed in-house platform. The Inp platform is the lower hanging fruit, and the BB Photonics design makes it still disruptive in terms of a much lower packaging cost. Also, note that in the first roadmap people at the THM of May, 2015, scratched their head when they heard of attaching to silicon. Well, what is happening now as one of POET's paths? Thank you Bill Ring. So Suresh and Bill Ring, I would credit with broadening the course of POET and making it into something doable much sooner. Well, they are scientists, too; and, they know what they are doing. Dr. Taylor's work, thought the ultimate holy grail, will happen but take a wee bit longer.
Another thing is that this company is no longer Dr. Taylor's vision turning into a business reality. It is the reality of our current Board of Directors. I am sure Dr. Taylor could/can be consulted upon if need be.
Finally, during the roadmap update, Suresh branded POET as a photonics company. So anything that has to do with photonics and the belief that our CEO, Board of Directors, and management believe that they can make happen and within a business model, they will lend their expertise to get it done.
From what I see, POET regardless if its morphology is still in the driver's seat.
