Lebowski101: It is time for POET to come out of "stealth mode" in terms of its new product lineup, as advertised to be in the hands of clients in the latter half of LAST YEAR.
I am not quite certain of what you mean by "new product lineup", but let's see. According to page 21 of the December investor presentation and the September news releases, the status is as follows:
- Distributed Feedback (DFB) lasers and various types of photodiodes are completed. The company is (or was) sampling them, i.e., they are (were) optimizing procedures in order to achieve maximum output (yield).
- Receive optical engines (as well as discrete laser components) are expected in 2018 and transmit/receive optical engines in 2019. I am not expecting news before these components are actually finished and hitting the market. POET will come out of stealth mode as late as possible, in order to not give competitors any clues, which unfortunately and inevitably means no clues for us, too. When will that be? Assuming they are making good progress on the technical and the business side, perhaps in spring or so. But who knows!
However:
While products under development deserve tight lips, it is a shame that available products are presented on the website so poorly or not at all! For example, the Constellation Series page still announces detailed "Product DataSheets coming soon" (sic!) for a long period of time now. This is regrettable, and not only because of the spelling errors!
Apropos of spelling errors, the POET website has an inglorious history of embarrassing spelling errors. Currently, I am wondering what these "CFP Lasers" might be that you can find in the menu on the left of the products page. Curious minds clicking on that menu entry are only told that these CFP lasers are "coming soon".
I'd really love to see some quality management for the website to have the latter meet the standards spelled out on the quality policy page! (As a personal aside, something similar is part of my daily job, so I know how easily errors creep in. On the other hand, I am ambitioned to eradicate them swiftly as soon as they become known.)
