Good post FJ. The essence of the problem, as i have stated many times, is that the technology (tools as you call them) to produce the sheer precision required to build this "Taylorism" of a chip are not yet in existence or, are new borns at best. There is no question that the theory and lab application of the GaAs chip is viable. The problem still, is that commercialization is many millions of dollars over the horizon.
Dr Taylor never envisioned that the little company formed around his theory would take the tecnnology across the goal line themselves. He thought, based on the talk of the day, ie, PC, Shepherd, etc. that the science would be sold to "that big fish fruit company, et al" who would then do the heavy lifting to commercialization.
Some of the pivots along the way have been, to say the least, breathtaking.
I do not know how Ajit convinced Suresh that this was the "career maker" for him, but I guess to some degree everyone wants to be a believer. Keep in mind that Suresh was a silicon guy with next to no GaAs time under his belt and was from the inside (no shareholders) world of the private sector.
I know that many are fustrated and want to "tar and feather" someone for the dream of big riches on the Venture falling on it's face in the mud. There is however, one simple truth, the Poet we bought into those many years ago would have withered, died and no longer exist were it not for his pride, smarts and determination.
If you are along for the ride, we're are just going to have to wait and see how this pivot turns out.
I think we are all pretty much in agreement that if some revenue stream is not established in the near term then some form of financing is on our horizon
