Message: Question about micromultiplexer and demultiplexer product

What is your opinion about the following?

If I understood the R&R presentation correctly. POET does not want to "release in the second half of 2017 a low-loss, low-cost micromultiplexer and demultiplexer product for 100G and above transceivers based on the technology developed by its subsidiary, BB Photonics Inc.", as accounced in January (see https://globenewswire.com/news-release/2017/01/31/912417/0/en/POET-Technologies-Announces-Development-of-Micro-Multiplexer-and-De-Multiplexer-Solutions.html). But they seem to directly aim at the Sub-assemblies & Optical Engines (see page 27 of the R&R presentation, http://poet-technologies.com/docs/presentations/POET%20Technologies_Sept_2017_FINAL-Web.pdf).

I see two possiblities, what that means (if I read it correctly):

  1. The micromultiplexer and demultiplexer product for 100G and above transceivers is not competetive enough to be a stand-alone product.
  2. Aiming directly at the Sub-assemblies and Optical Engines will cost them more money, so maybe they already have a strategical partner within reach.

I would love to hear you opintion about my thoughts (and I am sorry, if it was posted before - I don't read the forum as much as I once did). Have all a great sunday!
