However, nobody has done this four-terminal thyristor before, not even in the UConn lab, so this is new stuff, and the engineers have to try out a number of different ways, learn from the results, gain experience, try still different ways based on that experience, etc. – you get the idea.
So, yes, this is possible, but due to the learning cycles it is a very time-consuming and – perhaps even more important – money-consuming process. I'd guess a single cycle takes at least three weeks and a six-figure amount of dollars. That's why they are looking for a strategic partner with deep pockets right now. A governmental institution (like e.g. the Indian SCL) would be favorable, because these institutions are usually less greedy regarding company shares or profit participation.
