The link you provided relates to an article way back on Oct. 13, 2015. It's possible that research may have continued there or jointly with POET's facilities since then. However, there was an important point made by Bill Ring that I grabbed from that article, and that is ----
"Bill Ring, BB Photonics CEO, said:
“Working with PEMC is helping us to build world-class spot size convertors, which are a really vital component in this new technology. Our aim is to sell our system to the world’s biggest IT companies so we need it to be perfect before it goes to market. The tests we are able to carry out at the University, along with our own lab measurements, are helping us make constant improvements. PEMC is now like an extension of our own facilities."
I bolded the above because that point makes so much sense. I think that when Suresh forecasted this by that time frame and so forth, that he still would not bring something to market unless the product is within his vision of "perfect" or even more so that is within the vision of our Board of Directors' vision of "perfect". I feel that GaAs delays is because it has fallen short of "perfect" and our management will not put such product in front of customers until it is. If you do this before you are actually ready, then you will leave a bad impression and not get a second chance. Start-up firms have to be doubly sure when meeting customers who are substantially larger than themselves to gain respect and credibility and the confidence of the customer who must risk change, for example, in their data centre infrastructure with the hope of getting the advertised economic benefitis that POET expects to deliver. So any delays in GaAs in that context should not be viewed as a failure. Peter Copetti could not have taken the technology to the next level, so this management team actyually knows what they need to do. Yes, when a hurdle happens, they have the skill to work around it --- unfortunately, that takes more time and money. But if you are coming to the market advertising 'disruptive', then you have no choice but to be as close to perfect that you can get on your own. If you need more money or help, then you need to find the perfect partner to ensure 'perfect'.
I am grateful that for short to medium term revenue that we will have the Inp platform as a revenue channel. Despite any set-backs that company has had, what they are doing now is also proof that they can get us all through diversity and be the better for us all in the end.
