One can clearly see that for POET's near term strategy that our company has put in the forfrunt BB Photonics (Bill Ring's InP platform) as per this mission statement that I found on his company website now shown as a subsidiary of POET Technologies:

Of course, POET is working with parallel technologies and developing as such and not being a one trick pony. That is still true as well. Now here is the mission statement of our subsidiary, BB Photonics: 

"The company’s mission is to develop cost effective high speed communication using integrated photonics to enhance efficiency, reduce power, size and provide required functionality to optoelectronic devices. 

Founded in 2014, with the understanding that communication devices required a platform technology for integration of photonic functionality, the team is developing unique methods and designs for transitional routing on the chip. The company is focusing initially on the data center due to the rapid expansion in data requirements by the consumer and the need for low latency and high data rates. The management team consists of experienced personnel with decades of understanding of photonics and optical design and transfer of products to manufacturing in high volume. 

BB Photonics has established a strong commercial plan and is partnering with key suppliers, manufacturers and companies to enhance and accelerate the deployment of its unique photonic technology."

So it might be fair to say that Bill Ring is a genius like Geoff Taylor. But as we painfully learned, whose idea was closer to market?  I am grateful to POET management in having the forsight to follow two platforms. Each platform is probably more specific to certain types of applications that us layfolk are not aware of. This also supports POET's strategy in becoming an organic Phonotics Integrator and not just a hope of becoming one in my opinion. Each presentation since the THM has supported this direction as our story progresses and not regresses as some would have us believe.
