BCD, the most obvious reason why Apple would not intervene is - to keep secrecy.
Any intervention of Apple, directly at POET or indirectly at a supplyer or partner, woud immediately cause material info. 

Apple knows how to keep their secrets, and leaking like the TRAB/TB or these soft hints of PC was already much too much for them.
