I doubt that the US investors will turn out to be "friendly hands". They may succeed in boosting the SP, but entirely for their own gain, IMO. I also have concerns that POET may have a handshake agreement with them, and it may be difficult to trust them, IMO.
Additionally, I'm not sure that POET had any concerns about not controlling their destiny in terms of shareholder voting, as they have always got the vote they wanted (e.g. the last increase in options).
