I think most of us initialy thought we were in the 100 or 400m hurdles "race" when it is now clear we are in probably a 10 k hurdles "race" (there currently isn't one of these in the Olympics) and we are probably now over 5 or 10 hurdles some of which are brand new ones compared to the initial "race" we thought we were in. We have done exceptionally well just need to get over 3 or 4 more hurdles for the first show and tell ("ribbon") and then there will be many more meters to go and "ribbons" to come.
