Yes, it's possible, but improbable.
I think that FJ may have been trying to fit the known number (2M) into a nice box, which UConn was. I suspect that real truth is more complex, some playing it very tightly, some with the shares to drive it lower when the bid was weak, some options being exercised, etc. etc.
That being said it did create the perfect storm to drive the S/P down, and whoever it is that wants them, and I believe there are many who do, especially at .64US/.86C, are leisurely picking them up cheap. Conspiracy?...I doubt it, but I'd never say never.
Weak hands are being driven out, but that too shall end the day a customer/partner/consortium/conglomerate is formed. I wouldn't put anything past these guys, they know, or have connections to just about every market on the globe.
There is always risk, and much still remains, but we are very close....
