No one seems to be speaking of yield. Even if POET can get 2000 chips on a 6 inch wafer we have been given no indication of what the yield of those wafers will be.

Presumably the yield will be up to current standards, which is generally a closely held secret amongst fabs. Taking a quick scan around google it seems as though it can run as low as 30% and as high as 60%. The rest of the chips are garbage. This article describes yields for silicon, which may, or may not prove to be a valuable comparison to GaA yields.

I do not think it would be fair to start putting numbers to the production of the POET chip until we have more information.
