Message: BB Photonics Acquisition - The end to end solution strategy

From the Poet news release,

"This strategic acquisition is designed to provide POET with additional differentiated intellectual property and know-how for product development, enable POET to better service its first identified commercialization market - the end-to-end data communications market - and augment its sensing roadmap.

Previously (late May) I posted a video presentation by Sanjay Jha, GF CEO from April 2016, where he spoke about Autonomous Driving, Smart Cities, IoT, Photonics and Power Consumption.

The video had sections very relevant to Poet.

I also see another section of that video that gets me thinking about the BB Phontonics acquisition.

Sanjay talks about the IoT industry and what it means to the semiconductor industry. Listen to what he says about standardization, fragmentation and the single biggest barrier to IoT - end to end solution to solve particular problems, power consumption and sensors.

Check it out starting at about 16:30 mark.

Poet Technologies - Breaking Through the Bottleneck

While computational speeds have gone up dramatically, communication speeds have not increased and as a consequence. The interconnects have become a bottleneck. Integrating optics on the chip can break the logjam by replacing copper with optics in high-throughput applications. We believe that our technology takes a sledgehammer to the bottleneck, while dramatically lowering power consumption and avoiding other complexities that traditional Moore’s Law scaling has not been able to solve in the silicon world.
