Why would BAE producing an integrated POET Chip be strange?
In March 2015 BAE were contracted by PTI to take on a task that could not be completed in the Stoors Laboratory due to the problems with the newly installed 'Splutter' machinine. What was to be the end product of that short contract was never explained to us by management.
By resorting to dot joinIling my conclusion is that PTI were wanting to demonstrate, to an important customer, that an integrated POET chip could be mass manufactured. What Sam Peralta showed FJ et al yesterday was in all probability the evidence that Apple needed to connect with PTI by appointing Tony Blevins to the TRAB. ie They were pleased with the result.
Speculation, fanticism, an overly fertile imagination or even stupidity would all be reasonable criticism directed at me but this remains my conclusion. There is an undeniable link to Apple and whilst yesterday's marvellous briefing convinced me that PTI is focused on building a world class photonics company to feed the explosion of development ahead in the post MoorsSi wave of IC development, It in no way detracted me from the notion that a relationship with a major customer was established in Summer 2015 and that that customer has in all probability proceeded with an in house development of a licenced POET product.
May I point to one quote from the 'rock star' yesterday, or as I noted at the time: 'If we can demonstrate the integrated tranciever we're in very good shape with customers'. This I feel adds to the possibility that management are confident of securing income much earlier than their comments (smakescreen) about EBITDA 2018 implies.
JTB the chip was made for PTI by BAE under contract and not independently by them for their own use use to interpret otherwise has no basis. My conclusion above I feel has and has some merit albeit surmised.
There is a new smoke and mirrors approach emerging from management and a clear need to fox their competitors much as the comment by SV about not giving away customer information so as not to let the competition get there first. This as Eileen knows is normal business tactics.
