Message: Something different from POET

Mack,

DNWL and I were chatting, much along the lines you were describing, about the technological possibilities of POET's Technology based on other technical developments out there.

For example, imagine that POET manufactures a monolithically integrated system on a chip which contains all the fundamental POET objects, all the POET building block on board. Every instance of the chip would be built to the same format, which will leads to some redundancy of POET objects but that would be OK because of the tiny form factor and the lack of boards and other components.

The chip then has a propriety coded method of configuring each of those POET objects to perform in different combinations to meet a variety of user desired functions in order to achieve a particular users requirement. In some instances some of the POET objects may not even be used and could remain switched off, but nevertheless would remain configurable on the chip given usr access to the right POET code to do so This method offers PTI the ongoing proprietary control over chip configuration it would conserve POET IP, much in the way I understand ARM to meet customer requirements.

The one standard fits all approach whould attract economies of scale and simplicity of manufacture. Any generational changes would be carefully controlled. The fee and charges model would attract down line revenue and customers would benefit from the investement in POET technology.

Of course any changes would attract charges to use other functions through the POET Code. I envisage that the size of the chip would be standardised to minimum form factor achievable, although scalable over different future generation.

For the user wishing to adopt POET Technology in a product under development he makes an NRE payment, to join the POET club PTI then simply has to configure using its code the POET Chip into whatever product the user desires but to a set standards for size and packaging and the external optical/electrical interfaes.

I don't think any of this is new DNWL believes this sort of thing is being done already but certainly it might be a clever trick for POET to play and possibly one already thought about and conceived given your notion.
