untrue.
"doing nothing" is always an option.
that such a choice is often overlooked is a common fault (easy to forget zero and null)
having said that, there appear to be perhaps four options, albeit one could identify that the third and fourth are simply the two temporal derivative elements of the one larger "do nothing" class.
hence,
can't argue with Knuth.
