Jets911: One good reason could be to protect their initial run of VCSEL to ensure that it is manufactured properly, on time and at the right cost.

Close collaboration is suffient. You don't have to buy your service provider to guarantee that. I mean, our economies would look totally different if that were a requirement. ;-)

Jets911: Also they have a new paradigm with the new owner that could create unacceptable risks regarding their technology.
