As I understand it,

  1. POET Technologies (resp. OPEL Solar) has filed the patent with the patent office on 2012-08-17 (important date regarding prior art),
  2. the patent office published the patent application on 2014-08-28 (until then it had been confidential),
  3. and now the patent office granted the patent to POET Technologies on 2015-11-17.
