Message: Adoption on 10x less power

If POET can follow through with the timelines offered at the recent CC and deliver on 10X less power alone then we will be at the forefront of technology and will be the obvious choice for new networks and upgrades of existing

10 X less power. What does that mean?

the obvious is

A. lower electricity bill required to transmit and receive data

B. cooler running temperatures which tanslates to less A/C and fans which will also lower the operating cost of electricity

what may not be initally obvious is

A. the UPS Uninterruptible Power Supply consideration. Most devices in racks nowadays have two power supplies. 1 connected to regular power and the backup 2nd connected to UPS. The UPS is firecely expensive and costs a lot to maintain and service. The size and cost of the UPS is based upon consumption of the rack. Lower the power consumption of the rack and lower your UPS cost.

B. Backup generator. Similar to above. All datacentres have a backup generator. If the main power source goes the UPS will keep the datacentre up until the backup generator kicks in. Backup generators are designed, purchased, maintained based on load requirments. Lower the requirements and lessen the load.

The future is exciting indeed.

Not to mention: that the lessening need for the things you mentioned means that more CPUs can be packed into even less space. Data centers can either process more, faster, in their existing footprint, or they can become smaller and do the same job, which means less expensive buildings/rent/property taxes in addition to all of the above.
