Yes and no. PET is dead insofar as there won't be an individual PET release that customers could license. On the other hand the electronics side is of course still alive, needed, and an essential part of POET. (Otherwise it would be "POT". :-))
The VCSEL transceiver is showing this, as it consists not only of the optical VCSEL, but also comprises electronics to convert the electrical input signal into an optical one by modulating the laser beam that is sent out by the VCSEL – plus the analog for the receiving direction, where the optical signal is converted into an electrical one.
So the VCSEL transceiver will demonstrate:
- POET's electrical side,
- POET's optical side, and
- the integration of both.
