Nuying Huang, Taipei; Adam Hwang, DIGITIMES [Friday 25 September 2015]
Semiconductor-grade silicon wafer maker GlobalWafers started trading on Taiwan's over-the-counter (OTC) stock market at an initial price of NT$61.5 (US$1.88) per share on September 25.
GlobalWafers expects its consolidated revenues to sequentially decrease in the fourth quarter and then rebound in first-quarter 2016, company chairperson Doris Hsu said.
Currently, 8-inch wafers account for 36% of its consolidated revenues, 12-inch for 24%, 6-inch for 24%, 5-inch for 8%, 4-inch for 6% and 3-inch for 2%.
GlobalWafers currently has monthly production capacity of 188,000 12-inch wafers, 450,000 8-inch ones and a combined 1.5 million for 6-, 5-, 4- and 3-inch. While all 12-inch wafers are annealed ones, the 8-inch segment consists of annealed, epitaxial and polished wafers and the 6-inch segment consists of epitaxial, polished, diffused and non-polished wafers.
Currently, GlobalWafers utilizes 100% of production capacity for 12-inch wafers, over 90% for 8-inch and 70-80% for 6-inch and below.
One-third of all wafers produced by GlobalWafers are for automotive electronics, one-third for PC-use ICs and one-third for power management ICs.
GlobalWafers completed expansion of production capacity for 8-inch wafers by 20% and 6-inch by 10% in the third quarter, and plans to expand 12-inch wafers capacity in 2016.
