While todays lunch break I tried to list the pros and cons about my investment. I wanted to have an overview, no technical analysis. This is what I found:

Chances:

What a technique!

No doubt Mr. Taylor is a genius. He and his team made some developments that make „very disruptive“ products possible.

What a lineup!

They are perfectly staffed. They´ve got the technical knowledge and they´ve got expertise in economics and law. Most important to me is their connection to the business.

What a timing!

Industry is looking for answers right now, Poet has them. No one else in sight to compare. I remember Mr. Taylor talking about a timeframe of 2 years for capturing market. Hurry up, Poet!

Risks:

Big fish or small fry?

Poet is surrounded by biiig predators. I hope the company can handle this and Poet can grow big itself before eaten for lunch. All I can do is to rely on Poets leadership.

Products ready or not?

I am not sure 100% that there is a market-ready product yet. Semiconductor business is a long-term business, customers don´t rush in because of a cool new technology. They need solid, no-bug products to make a deal for several years. All I can do ist to rely on the technique and the ability of Poet to get started in time.

Will they be loved?

Will they be considered as a reliable partner? Strong interdepence with products to be sought after. MOUs are pretty nice, but they don´t pay any bills. Only contracts rule.

Can they find the right staff? When growing fast, you need the right personnel.

All I can do ist to rely on Poets leadership and their connections.

My Conclusion (please make your own!):

I like the chances, but every single risk could kill my hopes. All the risks were discussed at this forum, solutions seem to be on their way, but uncertainities remain (otherwise it would be no fun, am I right?). Poets ability of hiring such skilled and world-class leaders tells me the risks are manageable at least. They aren´t dumb and I trust their decision. That´s why I am in, call me crazy.
