We thought it would be winter
We thought it would be spring
We thought it would be summer
But nothing really happened
And patience was still the king
Weeks and months and even years
We’ve gazed at our bloody screens
With quiet anticipation
Of highs and lows and joys and no’s
And ends that had no means.
Four and half years I’ve trudged along
With an end that was always in sight
But that light at the end of the tunnel
May as well have been an elusive Venus
Out there somewhere on cloudy night.
But finally, finally, finally, finally
We think our POET’s gotten out of his cage
And has clutched the world
With his disruptive fists
And at last has come of age
Let’s hope I’m not still a dreamer
When October rolls around
And I can say to my family and friends
Both here in my face and in cyberspace
That the treasures we seek have been found.
