Notice the similarities between what you are describing and Compound Photonics, the company that bought the fab from Alfalight (Mr. Warrior's company).
They are working on mobile sized HD projectors. Check out the video on their homepage:

On the topic of the VCSELs POET will be building at Anadigics, we can control everything about the manufacture of integrated VCSELs at such a facility. I found this image of a VCSEL package on google images:

I chose it because it is labelled with the chips needed to work the VCSELs. Notice that these are packaged on a board and there are 5 chips (each laser gets one) and they are probably all made in separate runs with various materials.
If POET can put all of this onto a single chip *AND* completely control the market for them, I think we'll have tremendous revenue to drive more products and probably more acquisitions.
I like this plan and I hope POET can present something equally compelling within a month!
