I would argue an opposite mentality. The CEO's with the BIGGEST egos are the most likely ones to overspend in order to be first for something big. One of the hallmarks of a great CEO is a willingness to be an early adopter, rather than a laurel rester. If you're the CEO of a mega-cap, it's probably because you took some risks now and again.
