I gotta ask you, do you really believe that "vulture day traders" represent "the vast majority of investors"?

because if you do, then either you or I have a deep misunderstanding of the stock market.

My personal opinion is that it is not true, even remotely. daily volume? sure, that's what day traders do, but in terms of shares under their control? they are fleas, hiding beneath the wing of a little bird (us), riding on the back of a huge elephant (the company).
